Audemars Piguet is one of the rarest watch brands to celebrate a hundred years. Th company was founded in 1875 by Jules Louis Audemars and Edward Auguste Piguet in the Vallée de Joux in Switzerland and was officially named Audemars Piguet & Cie in 1881.
In 1892, the company produced the world’s first timepiece and continued to create the world’s first timepiece in 1921. The first skeleton watch was manufactured by the company in 1934. Audemars Piguet is now recognized for the Royal Oak collection, released in 1972 as the first luxury sports watch made of stainless steel. In 1946, the company produced the world’s thinnest watch at that time, with a 1.64-mm-thick movement.
In 2019, Caliber 4401 was created as a new internal, integrated chronograph drive. Before that, most chronograph movements of the brand either protruded entirely or used a unit above an existing internal caliber – with a few exceptions. Audemars Piguet demonstrates the greatness of high quality watchmaking in its entire range.
