Louis-François Cartier founded Cartier company in 1847 when he took charge of his boss’s workshop. In 1904, the pioneering Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont complained to his friend Louis Cartier about the unreliability and impracticality of using a pocket watch in flight. It was then that Cartier designed a flat wristwatch with a characteristic square case. Not only did Dupont like the watch but also other customers.
In that way the Santos watch “was born”,which was Cartier’s first wristwatch. In the early 1920s, a partnership was formed with Edward Jaeger (of Jaeger LeCloultre) to make its mechanisms available exclusively to Cartier. In Cartier watches we can also find mechanisms of Vacheron Constantin, Audemars-Piguet, Movado. Cartier product range includes watches, leather goods and accessories.
Cartier company operates more than 200 stores in 125 countries
